TREE FACES
During our walk, children will use clay and found objects to create playful faces on trees. These hidden forest friends spark storytelling and imaginative play, encouraging children to wonder about the lives of the creatures they bring to life.

2 YEARS OLD

ENCOURAGEMENTS
Encourage sensory exploration with clay. Talk about different textures found on trees.

How does the clay feel in your hands? Can you find something soft and something rough?

3 YEARS OLD

ENCOURAGEMENTS
Let them choose different materials for faces. Encourage pressing objects into clay for patterns.

What do you think your tree face is feeling? What happens when you press leaves into the clay?

4 YEARS OLD

ENCOURAGEMENTS
Prompt them to create a backstory for their face. Discuss how trees provide homes for animals.

What is the name of your tree friend? Who might live in this tree?

5 YEARS OLD

ENCOURAGEMENTS
Ask them to tell a short story about their creation. Encourage creating multiple characters.
