Deeply unwanted insight into mold.
Turns out, you can't remediate guilt.

Welcome.
I'm sorry you're here.
I've spent the last year with a mouthful of mold and absolutely no idea how to talk about it. I had to live through it, make mistakes, learn things I never wanted to know, and find my way back to the surface before I could even begin to put it into words. ROTTEN is a painfully personal account of mold, motherhood, guilt, questionable decisions, and everything we couldn't see until our lives were torn apart. It's about what happens when mold gets into your home, your body, your head, and eventually the way you see yourself. The sleepless nights. The endless research. The thousand ways I found to blame myself for something I didn't even know was happening. And perhaps the most devastating question of all: how do you forgive yourself when you feel like you've failed to protect the people you love most? Somewhere between the demolition, the move, the medical appointments, the financial absurdity, and the mistakes, I started feeling pretty fucking rotten myself. I refuse to take an experience that completely upended my family's life and package it into another soft, sanitized wellness blog. This is where I finally find my voice. Where I give the devastating parts their own spotlight, dig into the science, question what I thought I knew, unpack the recovery, and embrace the dark humor behind the sheer audacity of microscopic organisms. I'm still figuring it out. But I've finally got something to say and a few things to share along the way.
This is information I'd rather have lived without, organized for your convenience.

PERSONAL NARRATIVES
Departures of Grief
I originally wrote "Departures of Grief" for the sellers of our new home, hoping they might understand the significance of what they were giving our family. But somewhere in the middle of what should have been an entirely celebratory moment, I found myself confronting the strange coexistence of gratitude and grief.

SUPPLEMENTS & PRODUCTS
Supporting Your Recovery Ain't Cheap
From mold remediation supplies and air purifiers to nutritional supplements, water filters, and “low-tox” household swaps, I've compiled a master list of the products we purchased throughout our family's mold recovery journey. Fair warning: this is a painfully expensive collection of product research, documenting what we bought and exactly why we chose it.
