The Magic Was Never Pretend

There’s something about Halloween that feels a little like childhood itself — fleeting, enchanting, and full of wonder.
For a moment, time slows down. We see our children step into the world of make-believe — a world where capes give courage, wings bring freedom, and laughter fills the air thicker than fog.
But behind the costumes and candy lies something deeper. It’s the reminder that childhood is the magic.
That imagination is sacred.
That play is the language of connection.
Ocean State Kids wants to hold space for that kind of magic — the kind that invites mothers to pause, to breathe, and to see their children (and themselves) in the soft glow of wonder again.
We believe that outside, among the trees and wind and even rain, it’s easier to remember who we are.
To reconnect not only with our children, but with the parts of ourselves that still believe in innocence and in the healing power of a good belly laugh.
Because the real costume we wear is motherhood — loosing a part of our old self, but rewarded with a new spirit that is brave, messy, beautiful, and even more alive.
And every day spent in nature with our children… is another chance to lift the veil and remember that the magic was never pretend.
